Head, Custody Services

The role holder is responsible for developing and providing leadership for the Custody Services business, ensuring that the business is operated in accordance with the legal regulatory requirements and conducted within the bank’s framework

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop & execute the business strategy to achieve the unit’s targets & profitability
• Ensure for delivery of seamless customer service through maintenance of high service standards
• Manage & strengthen Relationship Management and partnerships for the Custody Services business (customers, fund managers, brokers, regulators, administrators, stakeholders)
• Enforce robust risk excellence and compliance requirements (regulatory, audit, internal controls)
• Drive growth of market share, while retaining existing client base.
• Lead, direct and develop a highly performing and motivated team
• Oversee budget control and effective cost management
• Ensure compliance with RBA, CMA, CBK, CDSC regulations with respect to provision of Custody Services.
• Develop and lead KCB’s Facility agency business with respect to loan syndications, bond issues and other similar or related capital markets transactions in line with international industry standards
• Oversee adherence to high operational standards and procedures
• Ensure all regulatory returns are accurately compiled and submitted within the stipulated timelines
• Ensure investment transactions are processed within the market timelines and SLAs
• Oversee the preparation of reports to custody services clients within the stipulated timelines
• Ensure appropriate representation and participation of KCB in Client Board Meetings and Annual General Meetings
• Provide guidance on best practices to the Custody Services Units in the Subsidiaries.
• Co-ordinate Internal and external audits for the unit
• Spearhead the design of products, marketing, promotion and quality of Custody Services
• Spearhead the development and implementation of new Custody Services products
• Interpret the relevant legal and regulatory provisions and create guidelines for the operation of the business
• Receive and action on legal notices on behalf of the clients and the bank.
• Liaise with other stakeholders on legal matters relating to Custody Services.
• Oversee the preparation and dispatch of reports/papers to be discussed at meetings.
• Prepare annual budget for the Department.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings with departments within KCB and with clients.
• Make presentations to prospective customers for custody business
• Manage on boarding of new business/termination of mandates
• Attend Custody Services Client Board Meetings & Annual General Meetings
• SLA review with internal and external customers
The Person
For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. (Required)
  2. Professional qualification CISI, Trustee Development Program of Kenya (TDPK) (Required)
  3. Master’s degree - Any business related
  4. At least Eight years in fiduciary, governance or financial services
    • 5 years, experience in Banking Operations & Banking Operating Systems (Required).
    • 5 years’ experience in Capital & Money Markets instruments and transactions (Required)
    • 5 years’ experience in Managing Teams (Required).
    • 5 years’ experience in Knowledge of the Custody environment (Required).
    • 5-year experience in Relationship Management (Required)
