Manage, advance, design, implement and provide technical support to the Bank’s real estate and affordable housing development strategy, as well as drive the initiatives that will facilitate long tern funding for the book and de-risk the liquidity risk for the book. Develop investment models and secure funding lines for the mortgage book. This position also carries leadership responsibility for the fund raising and project management technical support teams
Key Responsibilities
• Identify, assess and recommend suitable funding investment opportunities including Real Estate REITSs, Tenant Purchase refinancing Models, Bonds, SBL’s structures (Security Based Lending) , blended finance and other funding financial products to fund the Mortgage book for the bank working closely with KCB Investment Bank and the Bank Sustainability team.
• Design and implement a Tenant Purchase funding framework for Real Estate projects in both Private and Public housing and develop a deep understanding of Real Estate Finance market practice, transaction structuring, monitoring and reporting of Real Estate Portfolio.
• Develop innovative options for financing and delivery of affordable housing. Have a comprehensive understanding of investment models and capital raising structures for housing and identify opportunities within the Housing Ecosystem.
• Manage a portfolio of projects including development and maintaining project timetables and provide leadership in project management, valuation evaluations, and funding requirements for projects
• Develop a fund-raising strategy for the Mortgage book that’s guided by a comprehensive understanding of National and Regional Housing policy and its inter-relationship with other policies in the bank.
• Track trends and key developments in projects and identify issues and priorities action and intervention through a thorough understanding of the housing market and housing needs in Kenya.
• Lead, manage, and appraise the technical team that will provide technical support on matters building and construction for all real estate projects financed by the bank and provide leadership for the technical teams in areas of Valuation Project management and Construction
• Lead on the development of a strong business approach to land and other assets for the development of housing and related schemes including development and maintenance of a bank property index to manage risks and lending while taking a proactive lead role in strategic planning and direction. Assess current and future budgetary risks and develop strategies to address the risk.
• Lead on the development of the Bank’s policies and strategies in relation to Housing, ensure these are in line with Government/professional guidance and good practice and drive forward the development of an ambitious and innovative Affordable Housing Strategy in partnership with key partners to most effectively meet housing needs and bring benefit to the Bank.
• Develop effective and dynamic relationships with key partnerships and other organizations to deliver new affordable housing. Maintain a high-level strategic relationship with the Government, Counties and other organizations to assist with the delivery of KCB Housing Strategy and firmly establish KCB as a key player in affordable housing development in Kenya and Provide expert advice to the Director and Senior Management in relation to all Housing development and strategy matters and represent the Bank at internal and external meetings on all housing developments and strategy matters, prepare and present reports to Senior Management.
The Person
For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:
Education & Professional Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Quantity Surveying, Building Economics, Construction Management, or a related field from a recognized university.
• Professional certification in Project Management, Real Estate Finance, Sustainability/Green Finance, Fundraising, Capital Raising, or a related discipline.
• Master’s Degree (MBA, MSc, MA, or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
Experience
• Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience, including at least 5 years in affordable housing, real estate development, project management, housing finance, investment management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in capital raising, transaction structuring, real estate funding, or development finance.
• Demonstrated success in portfolio management, business development, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of affordable housing programmes, housing finance, real estate markets, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Kenyan housing sector, including market, economic, social, and demographic trends.
• Excellent analytical, stakeholder management, communication, and strategic leadership skills.
