Grants Manager

Reporting to the Head Fundraising, the Grants Manager is a key member of the Fundraising Team, responsible for developing compelling grant proposals, managing the fundraising pipelines and ensuring compliance to grant covenants at all stages of the grant cycle, preparing accurate grant reports and other donor communications.

This role serves as the primary grant’s writer and the lead for all grant concept and proposal developments with cross-functional program teams and other internal stakeholders. The role will also be accountable for monitoring grant activities for effective grant servicing and deliverable management, ensuring compliance to grant commitments and donor requirements.  

The role holder will work with the fundraising and programs teams to ensure effective management of funder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare clear, concise, and persuasive grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and impact to potential funders. This includes drafting narratives, budgets, timelines, and other required documents in line with donor requirements and Group Policies.
  • Identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, corporations, etc, and support engagements with potential donors.
  • Monitor and track all fundraising pipelines working with programme teams, Head of fundraising and other stakeholders in providing any additional information that may be required by the donor agencies to increase success rates of the funding mobilization.
  • Coordinate programme teams in KCBF as well as Group business functions in the development of funding concepts and proposals.
  • Negotiate and prepare contractual terms as well as support execution of contract mechanisms. Review agreements, develop specifications and advise on all technical contract activity, such as tendering procedures, terms and conditions, contract change and review.
  • Review cash requests for grants ensuring amounts requested are reasonable and within approved budgets and ensuring organization procurement policies and procedures are followed when procuring goods and services. Review liquidation reports for grant advances issued.
  • Conduct quarterly financial reviews and grant audits where applicable giving feedback to grantees as appropriate on areas that need improvement in their systems and procedures.
  • Responsible for performance management of contracted services to ensure compliance, quality and value for money and all related activity.
  • Proactive development of relationships with donor, implementing partners, operational staff and wider stakeholders. Develop internal and external partnerships with providers, coordinating provider forums, workshops and meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide technical training and capacity building to Group entities and staff on proposal development and intelligence gathering, for high quality proposals and embed the KCBF grants management policy guidelines and industry best practices within the grants management cycle.

For the above position, the successful applicant should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized.
  • 5 years Grants Writing.
  • 4 years Grants budgeting.
  • 4 years Grants Contract management.
  • 4 years Donor Relationship management.
  • 3 years International Donor-Funded Projects.
  • 5 years Stakeholder management.
  • 1 year Capacity building and facilitation.
