Former Africa Club Champions KCB Volleyball Ladies will be aiming to secure a spot in the semifinals today evening as they face off against Egyptian volleyball powerhouse and the defending champions Zamalek in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Club Championship in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Lionesses advanced to the knockout stage after a commanding 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) over Nigeria Customs in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening.
KCB began their campaign with straight-set wins against La Loi (DRC) and Sococim (Senegal) in the group stages. Despite a spirited fight, they narrowly lost 3-2 in a five-set thriller to Egyptian giants Al Ahly on Sunday, finishing second in their pool.
“We started strong in our first two matches, although we fell short in our last pool match against Al Ahly, which was a good test for the ladies. We know we’re up against continental giants, and we must show up and play our hearts out if we want to bring the glory back to Kenya,” said KCB Head Coach, Japheth Munala.
All three Kenyan teams, KCB, Kenya Pipeline, and Kenya Prisons, have advanced to the quarterfinals. Kenya Prisons will face Al Ahly, while Kenya Pipeline takes on APR of Rwanda, the CAVB Zone V Club champions.
