Suspended loans? Ghosted applications? Maybe your CRB is trying to tell you something. Let’s show you how to check your credit status like a boss.

You’ve applied for a loan. You’re sure your documents are tight. Your income is looking good. You’ve even double-checked your payslip just in case. But still, your loan status is stuck in the abyss of “Pending.” Days go by. Your KCB App is giving you that silent treatment. And now, the question starts creeping in: Is my CRB okay?

Welcome to the world of credit checks — the invisible gatekeeper standing between you and that much-needed loan. But here’s the thing: it’s not scary. It’s not impossible. And no, you don’t need to call a cousin who knows a cousin who works “somewhere in finance.” You just need to know where to look.

Let’s talk CRB — short for Credit Reference Bureau. It’s like your report card for adulting. It tracks your borrowing behavior. Every loan you take, every repayment you miss, every lender who trusts you — it all gets recorded. So when a loan application hangs in limbo, your CRB status might just be the reason.

The good news? You can check it yourself. No magic. No passwords you forgot. Just three licensed CRB bureaus in Kenya that hold the key to your credit story:

  1. TransUnion CRB Kenya

This one’s been around the block. You can check your status by downloading the TransUnion Nipashe app, registering, and requesting your credit report. You can also SMS your ID number to 21272 to receive a summary. Neat, right?

  1. Metropol Credit Reference Bureau

Metropol offers a Crystobol app that allows you to view your report, your score, and even track who’s been checking you out (financially speaking). You can also dial *433# on your phone to register and access your details.

  1. Creditinfo CRB Kenya

You can check your credit status on Creditinfo by visiting their website https://ke.creditinfo.com/consumer-credit-report/. Sign up, verify your identity and you’ll get access to your full report.

Now here’s the twist — sometimes, your report might be clean, but your lender hasn’t updated your records. Maybe you paid off a loan last week, but the system still thinks you’re in the red. That’s where follow-up becomes your best friend. Call them. Email them. Send that proof of payment. Don’t let a ghost of a debt haunt your application.

Still listed? Clear your dues. Wait a little — system updates can take a few days. Keep your receipts close and your patience closer.

And here’s a pro-tip: once you’re clean, give your loan app a breather. Reapplying instantly with the same details won’t change much. But coming back with a fresh profile, a clean CRB, and updated info? That’s how you boost your chances.

So next time you’re asking yourself why your loan is dragging, don’t panic. Start with your CRB. The answer might be one click away.

Yours Sincerely
